"An Introduction to Council" Council 1 Training
If you’ve sat in circles and wondered why facilitation seems so easy, perhaps it’s time to learn for yourself the forms, elements, intentions, games and thresholds that distinguish Council from simple circles, and help facilitate deep conversation between strangers.
Paying respect to the roots of council in indigenous cultures worldwide, we’ll learn of its current application in families, social profit organizations, schools, prisons and businesses, its varied forms and settings, the importance of a strong “container” and why we sit in an intentional circle, even when online. There’ll be ample opportunity for break-out groups to practice your new facilitation skills and time well-spent learning how to form a prompt open enough to welcome responses from the most diverse circle. You’ll finish with the skills to begin bravely practicing council with family, friends, work colleagues and your chosen community.
Lillian Soderman joins Kate Lipkis in offering this 16-hour certified training, as taught traditionally at The Ojai Foundation and held online in six sessions over four short weekday evenings and two slightly longer Saturdays (9/21, 23, 26, 28, 30 and 10/3). Please contact Kate with further questions.
