Event Category: Council Trainings

Council is a relational practice, a way of listening and communicating that encourages attentive presence , as well as authentic and compassionate expression. It offers space for new insights and understandings, wisdom in decision making, and healing. Speaking and listening from the heart can connect people authentically in a way that strengthens relationships and builds stronger communities.
We are drawn to the practice of council out of appreciation and respect for the wisdom tradition of First Nations and indigenous cultures that invariably included strong circle practices that were a seamless part of life and relationship to the earth functionally, culturally and spiritually. We honor the roots in many cultures in the form and practices, grateful for the magic and healing that non-hierarchical circle communication can bring.
Council is practiced around the world in homes, communities, non-profit organizations, prisons and schools. Council helps to nurture the deep, authentic connections often neglected in our ever-faster, multi-tasking, tech culture.
This training offers an introduction to the practice; grounding in the forms and intentions, you will leave with the basic training to facilitate council and introduce it to your community.
This training is hosted by a community in Sebastopol, on original lands of Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo peoples, and is an open invitation for those interested in community building in all forms (also relevant for those working in different settings).
