It is an outgrowth of Center for Council’s Council Reentry Program and tells the story of one man’s last night of incarceration, as he calls a solo council to bear witness to all of his inspirations, loved ones, allies and teachers. The text was written by, and for, those who are undertaking the journey to freedom, many of whom practice council at one of 29 prisons where Center for Council has initiated programs, as well as those who support that journey. Through the tale of one man’s last night of incarceration, the book presents a rich roundup of stories, anecdotes, musings and resources intended to support those who are stepping into a critical time of transition.
